McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Starbucks boycotts Russia
McDonald’s, Coca-cola, and Starbucks join the list of companies halting business and services in Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine.
After being called out and pressured on social media, the consumer giants have finally taken action to respond to the conflict in Ukraine. All three companies stated that they will continue to pay their employees.
On Tuesday, Coca-Cola said it was suspending operations in Russia, which accounted for roughly 2% of the firm's operating revenue and income.
"Our hearts are with the people who are enduring unconscionable effects from these tragic events in Ukraine," the company said.
McDonald's also announced the temporary closure of its 850 outlets in Russia, while Starbucks announced the closure of its 100 coffee shops.
Meanwhile, McDonald’s fast-food chain rival, Burger King continues to operate in Russia and has committed $3 million (£2.3 million) to support Ukrainian refugees.
Restaurant Brands International, the owner of Burger King, said that they will redirect profits to humanitarian efforts.
As Russian aggression continues, more companies have been put under pressure to take action against Russia. BKM/ Expat Media
