Abu Dhabi authorities have introduced stricter penalties for littering, with fines reaching up to Dh4,000 for repeat offenders.
The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has announced the revised guidelines as part of its ongoing efforts to maintain cleanliness and environmental sustainability in the capital.
Under the new rules, individuals caught disposing of waste outside designated bins face an initial fine of Dh500. The fine increases to Dh1,000 for a second violation and Dh2,000 for a third offense.
Cigarette butt littering carries similar fines, reinforcing the government's commitment to keeping public spaces clean. Authorities warned that those found dumping waste in non-designated areas could face even steeper penalties—Dh1,000 for a first violation, Dh2,000 for a second offense, and a maximum of Dh4,000 for repeat violations.
The updated penalties aim to deter careless disposal of waste and encourage residents to adopt responsible waste management practices. Abu Dhabi officials urged citizens and residents to use designated waste bins and report any violations.
The DMT emphasized that the new fines align with Abu Dhabi’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. "A clean city is a shared responsibility. We call on everyone to respect public spaces and help us maintain Abu Dhabi’s pristine environment," a department spokesperson said. ICA/Expat Media
