UAE authorities warn of fake government SMS, emails

If you received an SMS or email from a UAE government agency, check again. It could be a scam. The Ministry of Interior recently warned UAE residents about suspicious messages purportedly coming from government agencies or even the police. According to the ministry, the fake messages mimic government organisations and may bear their logo. The messages often contain a link or a one-time password. The links are ploys from scammers to obtain sensitive information from people, which they will use to hack victims' personal or banking accounts. The ministry said that messages will only be sent from official numbers or emails. It urged the public to report such messages to authorities.
