Jail, up to Dh20,000 fine for gambling in UAE, police official warns

Gambling in the UAE is a crime punishable with a prison term and a fine of up to Dh20,000, a police official warned. Major Dr Saud Al Khalidi of Dubai Police’s Organised Crime Department, made the statement during a recent security awareness community workshop organized by Dubai Police. Under the UAE law, “whoever gambles shall be punished by detention for a maximum period of two years or by a fine not exceeding Dh20,000”. Imprisonment or a fine shall be imposed if the crime occurs in a public place, a place open to the public, or in a place or house prepared for gambling. Anyone caught running a gambling den or organizing a game of gambling in a public or private place will be punished by a maximum jail time of 10 years. ICA/Expat Media
