UAE ambassador warns of a ‘dystopian future’ war as drone assassins swarm across borders

As groups like Yemen's Houthi rebels integrate deadlier and smarter weapons into their weapon systems, UAE ambassador to the UN Lana Nusseibeh warned on Monday of swarms of assassin drones being sent out in cross-border attacks. Nusseibeh implored the Security Council members to curb the emergence of artificial intelligence systems and drones before humans reach a "dystopian future" wherein terrorists send out killing machines. She says that Al Qaeda, ISIS, and other extremist groups use the internet to recruit, while the Houthi militia fighting Yemen's government has employed increasingly powerful weapons to target its neighbors. “In the near future, it will be possible that swarms of drones, utilized by terrorist groups, could carry out cross-border attacks, using facial technology and other features enabled by artificial intelligence,” Nusseibeh said.
