WhatsApp scraps May 15 deadline on privacy policy

DUBAI – Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp has scrapped its May 15 deadline to force users to accept its privacy policy terms. “No one will have their accounts deleted or lose functionality of WhatsApp on May 15th because of this update,” according to WhatsApp. When it first announced the update, WhatsApp faced user backlash after it warned that those who refused its updated policy will have their accounts deleted. Under the updated terms, users will grant WhatsApp permission to share user info, contacts and profile data with Facebook and other applications. WhatsApp warned that users may “encounter limited functionality” on the messaging platform if they fail to accept the new terms. “You won’t be able to access your chat list, but you can still answer incoming phone and video calls.. After a few weeks of limited functionality, you won’t be able to receive incoming calls or notifications and WhatsApp will stop sending messages and calls to your phone,” according to WhatsApp. ICA/Expat Media
