Top Korean dramas that Filipinos love to binge-watch on weekends

K-drama — the favorite pastime of all ages and many races — rose to popularity in Asian countries, most especially among Filipinos. With fresh concepts, unique storylines, and interesting characters played by appealing actors and actresses, K-drama has secured its spot as one of the top entertainment sources in the Philippines. Romantic comedy, action, and a slice of life, K-drama can bring it all to you. Check out these top 3 Korean dramas that Filipinos love:

A Business Proposal

Adapted from a Webtoon, A Business Proposal features the story of a CEO, Kang Tae-moo, and a regular employee, Shin Ha-ri crossing paths in a quirky blind date setup. Shin Ha-ri accepts to go on a blind date with a false identity to help her friend sabotage the supposed arranged marriage but finds out that her date is her boss. Ha-ri continues the hilarious game of pretends to save her job and her true identity.

Happiness

Happiness is another drama adapted from a Webtoon story. The drama features a non-typical dystopian apocalyptic story set after the COVID-19 pandemic where another virus wreaks havoc on the world once more. The action-thriller plot revolves around the residents fighting for their lives while being locked down in an apartment building surrounded by the infected. Jung Yi Hyun and Yoon Sae Bom, both members of the police force, took charge of the protection and survival of the civilian residents. The series focused more on the divide among people and their social classes and much less on the zombies and all the gore. Happiness will make you realize that greedy people might be scarier than zombies.

Thirty-Nine

Thirty-Nine is a mature series featuring three long-term friends who are turning 40. Unlike other women-centric dramas depicting women in their twenties or early thirties, or women who pursued their dreams, Thirty-Nine shows how three 39-year-old women with fairly successful careers feel unsatisfied with the mundaneness of their lives. The three friends attempt to start a new chapter, but one chapter was bound to end all along. Korean dramas are more than just for fun. For some people, K-drama is their escape from the burden of the real world while some see it as a reflection of their own lives. Whether it’s for entertainment or self-reflection, there’s always a K-drama in store for your taste. BKM/ Expat Media
