Palm Jumeirah building residents to be evicted in 90 days

Tenants of a Palm Jumeirah residential building are being evicted from their homes in 90 days after developer Nakheel said the property will undergo major refurbishment. More than 100 tenants of Golden Mile 3 have been enduring ongoing construction work throughout the building after they were initially told the property was being refurbished. However, they said that in June, Nakheel surprised them with an eviction notice instead. Tenants say the move is against the law. Under Dubai law, tenants must be given 12 months’ notice should the property owner replace them with a new tenant or move into the property. According to Nakheel, it has followed the law, and that the building will be turned into a commercial property with serviced apartments. Meanwhile, tenants have said that construction work in common areas of the building has been disruptive and at times dangerous as they dodge through debris. Photos show of broken tiles on the corridors and ceiling panels removed. A resident said police have been called to the building several times as tenants complained of noise from construction work and drillings in the corridors. Another resident said that some of the tenants have also filed a complained with Dubai Municipality and Real Estate Regulatory Agency of Dubai to investigate the matter. ICA/Expat Media
