UAE international driving permit can be used as ID in case passport lost abroad
DUBAI – The UAE-issued international driving permit (IDP) can be used as an identification card in case one loses his or her passport abroad, according to the UAE Digital Government.
The IDP is valid for one year, and will be issued to any expat or Emirati with an existing driving license issued in the UAE.
Applicants for an IDP need to present their Emirates ID, passport, valid residence visa, copy of their UAE driving license and two photos.
The IDP can then be issued electronically through the Emirates Automobile and Tourism Club portal or from the club branches in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Ain, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain and the Western Region.
It can also be issued through the Ministry of Interior app (MOI UAE) on iTunes and Google Play, from the Roads and Transport Authority offices in Dubai, from Emirates Post offices, or from the Dnata office on Sheikh Zayed Road.
The IDP is issued in ten languages, including English, Arabic, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, German, Italian, Scandinavian languages, and Portuguese. ICA/Expat Media
