RTA issues new reminder for pedestrians in Dubai: Cross road safely

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) issued a new reminder to pedestrians as well as motorists on road safety, reminding the public to “cross [the road] safely”. This is part of the RTA’s latest traffic outreach program launched under the theme “Because Your Life is Precious, Cross Safely”. Maitha bin Adai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said the pedestrian safety campaign is one of four outreach campaigns that RTA has planned for 2022. "The campaign aims to reduce the number of traffic-related fatalities and injuries and improve the traffic safety indicators in Dubai,” bin Adai said. The campaign also urges motorists to “respect the rights of pedestrians to cross the roads”, while warning people against jaywalking. Pedestrians should only cross the roads in designated pedestrian crossings, otherwise they will commit a crime of jaywalking. The fine for jaywalking is Dh400. Police usually carry out random inspections and issue fines to jaywalkers caught on the spot. Motorists who do not stop for pedestrians at pedestrian crossings will be fined Dh500 and given six black points in their traffic file. ICA/Expat Media
