Google to soon detect heart, eye issues through smartphones

Google announced its latest AI plans of possible early detection of heart and eye issues at home using smartphones. Al Greg Corrado, head of the health department and research scientist at Google explains the possibilities offered by built-in microphone in smartphones such as detecting heartbeats and murmurs when placed on the chest. For eye diseases, the camera might be able to detect diseases from the eyeball photos such as diabetes, similar to the results produced by tabletop cameras in clinics. Corrado emphasized that it might not be at the highest accuracy level of diagnosis but it could be a useful tool of knowing the possible elevated risks. Google is also planning to use AI in analyzing ultrasound screenings by less-skilled technicians such as birthing parents for home evaluation as long the set pattern is followed. Current health-related features that have been implemented and utilized by devices through the Google Fit app include heart and breathing rate measurements with smartphone cameras. KSO/Expat Media
