Dubai Police warns against hiring absconding household workers, arrests 948 illegals

DUBAI – The Dubai Police has warned residents against hiring absconding household workers, saying this will help maintain security in the community. According to Dubai Police, a total of 948 absconding household workers were arrested in the first three months of this year. “To help maintain the security of the community, people are urged to report absconding domestic workers,” said Col. Ali Salem, director of Anti-Infiltrators Department at Dubai Police. Salem said the number of absconding workers increased during Ramadan when household workers leave their employers to earn more money working illegally for others. Police said most of the runaway workers use fake names and do not have legal documents. UAE residents are encouraged to report illegal workers by visiting the nearest police station, calling the hotline 901 or by sending an email to mail@dubaipolice.gov.ae. ICA/Expat Media
