‘Reckless’ blamed after UAE Covid-19 cases tops 20K

DUBAI – The UAE government’s spokesperson blamed “reckless individuals” for a higher number of coronavirus cases as the UAE reported 725 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday (May 13). In a briefing, Dr. Amna Al Dahhak Al Shamsi said the new cases bring the UAE’s total number of cases to 20,386. Out of this number, 13,657 are active cases in the emirates, the official said. “The higher number of cases reflects reckless individuals in society,” Al Shamsi said in a press briefing. “We are still in an important stage and social solidarity is required,” she added. Her comments came days after she announced that new cases of coronavirus on Monday involved four families who gathered for a group prayer in the emirates despite restrictions by the UAE and the UAE Fatwa Council. https://www.expatmedia.net/4-families-spread-covid-19-uae-group-prayer/2020/05/

More recover from Covid-19

Meanwhile, 511 more people recovered from coronavirus on Wednesday, bringing the total to 6,523. Three more people died, bringing the death toll to 206. Al Shamsi said that the UAE has intensified the number of Covid-19 screenings, which has now reached more than 1.5 million tests. Earlier this week, the Ministry of Health and Prevention announced that coronavirus tests will be free of cost to Emiratis and their housemaid starting next week. According to the ministry, the new initiative is under orders of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
