Majid Al Futtaim reaches out to Filipino expats for fun ideas at malls in Dubai

The favorite Filipino game of Bingo may just entertain shoppers at City Centre malls in Dubai if mall operator Majid Al Futtaim brings to life event ideas it solicited from Filipinos in the emirate. Executives at Majid Al Futtaim met with the Filipino Social Club (FilSoc), Filipino business owners, influencers and Expat Media at City Centre Deira on Wednesday (May 25) for a boardroom meeting to ask for suggestions on activities and services that will “shape the malls of the future”. Filipinos make up one of the biggest footfall at shopping malls in Dubai and are one of the top spenders, executives said, adding that they want to engage more with the community. A FilSoc member suggested hosting Filipino events like Bingo games and movie nights, as well as indoor markets featuring Filipino artisan products. “We hope Majid Al Futtaim can tap Filipino influencers in their campaigns,” said media professional Ed Cabusas. Social media influencer Jeromski suggested more “Insta-friendly spots” within the malls. “It would be great to see City Centre malls as more than just places to shop, but as places for Filipinos in the UAE to enjoy and rediscover their culture,” FilSoc President Ericson Reyes told Expatmedia.net. Jovy Tuaño, Executive Director of FilFood, urged City Centre malls to “give back to the Filipino community” by offering a platform for Filipino entrepreneurs. “It is time to change the notion of Filipinos as just workers,” Tuaño said. “We have plenty of Filipino-owned businesses that you could collaborate with,” he added. “You can use your malls as platforms for Filipino entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services,” Tuaño suggested.
