Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet service approved to enter Philippines

Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet service company has successfully obtained registration to enter the Philippines. The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) said on Friday (May 27) that Starlink Internet Services Philippines Inc. has been approved as a value-added service (VAS) provider. “Starlink’s VAS registration now allows the company to directly access satellite systems, build and operate broadband facilities to offer internet services,” the NTC regulator stated. The fast processing of Starlink’s registration “was meant to expedite the service’s immediate roll-out,” according to the regulator. NTC Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba also reaffirmed their commitment to assist Starlink in launching its services "expeditiously and professionally.” The Philippines will be the first country in Southeast Asia to get Starlink services, which will provide cost-effective, high-speed, and low-latency satellite internet with download speeds of 100 to 200 Megabits per second (Mbps). SpaceX aims to launch its first gateway in the Philippines before President Rodrigo Duterte's term ends next month. BKM/ Expat Media
