Back to normal: Dubai records 461 million public transport users in a year

DUBAI – Dubai’s public transport—including buses, Dubai Metro and taxis—served a total of 461 million people in 2021, indicating that operations are “back to normal”, according to an official of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The number of public transport users in Dubai was higher in 2021 than in 2020, with 346 million riders recorded. The average number of daily commuters in 2021 also increased to 1.3 million, compared to 948,000 in 2020. “December 2021 recorded the highest number of public transport users with 53 million riders, followed by November recording 50 million riders,” said Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA. "These results confirm that public transport operation is back to normal following Covid-19 and is a reflection of the high confidence of public transport users in the efficiency of the preventive and precautionary measures that RTA had initiated to curb the spread of the pandemic right from the start,” Al Tayer added.
